How about a feature that allows faculty to select an option for each assignment that automatically fills in grades for students with zeros if the assignment is not complete by the due date.
This feature is already available in the gradebook but only when one wants to finalize a course. If the feature is exercised earlier, it will fill in all assignments yet due with zeroes.
