The classic all-white background in Populi, while quite clean in its appearance, hurts my eyes when having to look at it all day every day of the work week. Dark modes and inversion of colors seem to be a trendy things for operating systems, apps, and websites these days to combat eye fatigue (cue the disparaging of the reviled millennials). I just this morning found a dark mode for my Outlook email account online that has made working through emails much easier on the eyes. It is an optional toggle, so it can be switched off or on depending on my needs. It caused me to wonder if something similar could be done with Populi. Therefore, great Populi wizards, all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth and a Populi dark mode. Thanks!

Adam Sentz Official comment Dark mode is now available.
Your personal Settings now include the Interface Theme setting which lets you choose between Light (always), Dark (always) or Auto. Auto is the default and will match whatever state your browser is in (light or dark) which is probably dictated by your operating system being in light or dark.
Account Settings (for account admins) now include header background, text and link colors for both Light Theme and Dark Theme. The Light Theme settings are the same as before, and the Dark Them values have been copied over - so both will have the same header colors to start. Depending on your colors you may wish to tone them down for dark mode.

Donelle Watson I agree! We need a dark-side mode!
-
Jeff Ingle Yes please! I use a browser extension for forcing a dark mode for most websites, but Populi does not well translate into dark mode forced by any such extensions.
-
Mitchell Kazeminejad Also agree, dark-theme please.

David Lobo Dark theme is desperately needed. Life would be so much better with it.
Administrators, please give us a dark theme option.

Nathan Huguley It's more than two years later. A lot has changed since that younger, more innocent version of myself first requested a dark mode. Those were the days, no? Back before the screen I was staring at all week was in my office rather than in my basement (pour one out for working at work), back before inflation made it feel like I'm getting cost of living deductions with every paycheck, back before I had to don a "hazmat" suit to go to the grocery store, back before I prayed every day that they'd let me vaccinate my almost-4-year-old (he was only about to turn 2 in those days), back before I knew the name "Carole Baskin" or had any notion of how cool a Karate Kid reboot could be... back then my desires were simple. Two front teeth and a dark mode. Now I would settle for just a dark mode.
So, I appeal to thee, great lords and ladies of Populi, all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful creators of our student information system, defenders of our data, sovereigns over all that is student success-related, to hear our pleas. Grant us, the pitiable, privileged, first-world consumers of your product, the grace of darker screens so that we might work more hours with less eye strain.

Jeff Ingle Nathan Huguley, rotfl! Excellent.
Yes please, Populi.

Deacon Vic Broberg I tried a dark theme browser extension and it was horrible, buttons moved, there were horizontal lines across the screen.
Please add a dark-theme or make it dark-mode compatible. I am not a millenial but a young Gen X and I wear glasses (with bluelight filter) and they help as well as turning on the "night light" feature on windows, but a dark-mode would be better on our eyes. We have learned over the past 15-20 years that florescent lighting is bad for eyes and health and we are learning more about the negative impacts from blue light exposure on people who work on computers. Let's be honest, if we are staff at an institution that uses Pop-you-leeee (roy Jenkins (sorry couldn't help meself), then we are at a job where we work in front of a computer monitor for the majority of the day. -
Nathan Huguley Amen Deacon Vic Broberg. Amen. I'm an older millennial, but I promise that a bright white (blue light) background hurts my eyes just as much as the next person. Populi, pleeeeeease give us some kind of dark mode!

Nathan Huguley Adam Sentz, you and your team are heroes and heroines and gender non-binary heroic personages!! I nearly fell out of my chair this morning when I logged into our beloved student information/learning management system! My eyes are relieved!
Seriously, I really do appreciate this feature. It really will help with eye strain and make my job easier. Thank you for your good work on this!

Deacon Vic Broberg Adam Sentz Thank you so much!
Edit* Found where to toggle it! I am so excited! :) Thanks so much!

Angelika Steinberg Where do I toggle this feature off?
-
Adam Sentz Angelika Steinberg - Click your pic (or initials) in the top right and then Settings. The Interface Theme setting lets you choose between Light (always), Dark (always) or Auto. Auto is the default and will match whatever state your browser is in (light or dark) which is probably dictated by your operating system being in light or dark.

Angelika Steinberg Thank you Adam, I overlooked that setting earlier.
