Prior to the start of a term, students can only view the syllabus page for a course--the Lessons and Files pages, for example, are unavailable. The only way to make them available is to change the start date of the course manually, one course at a time. It's easy to overlook this step in setting up a course, leaving students locked out.
As a general rule, it seems better that students should have access to all course materials as soon as they register. This allows them to get working on readings and early assignments prior to the first class.
Perhaps the defaults in Populi could be changed so that enrolled students get full access to course materials as soon as the faculty member publishes the course.
