Monthly Reconciliation Files imported to Populi should work with DL Tools

When I receive our monthly SAS reports (message class DSLF20OP) I import them into DL Tools to run a report PDF report for our monthly reconciliation process. This is a monthly process required for all Title IV eligible schools. 

The issue I have is that when this file is imported to Populi, it is incompatible with DL Tools. Only if the file is downloaded directly through EdConnect, does the file work with DL Tools. I think files imported into Populi have their encoding changed and therefore they don't work with DL Tools. But I don't know for sure because I am no computer engineer.

Using EdConnect is a huge pain in the neck. Populi's SAIG Log is WORLDS better. The monthly reconciliation is the only thing keeping me from just using Populi all the time. It would be amazing if the monthly reconciliation file could be imported through Populi and used directly with DL Tools. 

I know this is not a supported feature/function, but it would be awesome if it was!

  Can we get the SAS reports thru Populi? I am not seeing them in my SAIG log.

  Debra, if you uncheck all the specific message classes in the "Message class download filter" section under Financial->Financial Aid->Settings->DoED Intergration, Populi will import ALL messages from your SAIG mailbox as their help text says, "By default, Populi will download everything in your SAIG mailbox and store it permanently (even if Populi cannot interpret the file). If you want Populi to only download certain message classes, select them here."
  
  Just be careful! If you need to use these files in a program like DL Tools, you will have to re-download them through EdConnect. (And this can be a huge pain in the neck!)
  
  The files imported through Populi do not work with other programs. That's what my feature request is about.

  Jon,

  Thanks so much for the prompt response! They are all already unchecked but when I search my SAIG log, using the message class DSLF, it doesn't find anything and even when I scroll thru the many pages of the SAIG log, I am not finding those DSLF files.

  Hi Debra,

  It could be any one of several message classes. It depends on your school's settings in COD:
  
  "The SAS will be sent to your school in one of four message classes, depending on your selected SAS Options:
  • DSDF – Fixed Length, Disbursement Level Loan Detail
  • DSLF – Fixed Length, Loan Level Loan Detail
  • DSDD – Delimited, Disbursement Level Loan Detail
  • DSLD – Delimited, Loan Level Loan Detail"

  I am having the same issue. I keep ordering the DL reports so I can reconcile using the DL tool from COD but keep getting that message populi cant import said file.   I really need help figuring out how do others do their DL monthly recon using the SAIG  mailbox in populi???

  Hi Lisa, 
  I have to use EdConnect to import the file and then use DLTools to import the EdConnect-imported file to generate the monthly report. 
  
  When Populi imports files it changes the encoding of the documents to something that DLTools cannot read. :-/

  Jon Coffee - As a rule files uploaded to Populi aren't altered in any way. Populi makes encodings of things like videos and PDFs for online viewing, but the original file is always uploaded directly to our file servers and preserved. Would you mind reaching out to Populi Support with some details so we can look into this?

  Hi Adam, sure thing. I just submitted a support ticket. The basic issue is, files from Populi do not work with DL Tools: the exact same files from EdConnect do.

  I just closed the support ticket. It looks like the monthly DSLF and DSDF files can be downloaded from the Populi SAIG log and imported directly into DL Tools with no problem!
