I love the addition of the Files tab as it allows me to check the files very easily. Could we also have a Links tab to compile all the links in the course? That way I can check to make sure that all links work before the term begins without having to click through each lesson.

Simran Khalsa Wow, this would be an amazing feature that I didn't even think to ask for. To reduce the duplication of uploaded files we have switched to linking almost all our literature and handouts instead of uploading them to each class, and yes, checking and verifying each link in each lesson and assignment description in a course instance is a pain that occasionally has something missed. I guess that populi would have to implement some sort of web crawler for the course instance to do something like this, perhaps initiated by the class implementer to compile (which might take 24 hours/overnight?), but with the location the link came from marked so that if a link needed editing (goes to a 404 or the wrong thing), that it could be tracked?
Of course this would not capture anything that should have been a link but isn't, so that page by page audit would still need to happen even if something like this were able to be put in place.More useful would be to the students, for whom I currently build a separate lesson with all material links in it to emulate the previously automatically compiled files section.

Matthew Van Matre Hi Ginger,
I agree. This feature currently exists in Canvas: How do I validate links in a course? (links to an external site). It also addresses Simran's concern about showing what is invalid and where one needs to go to fix it.
C'mon Populi - you can do this!

Adam Sentz Simran Khalsa - Sorry for the super long time to reply, but Populi only stores one copy (not including backups) of each unique uploaded file. So you can use the same file in an unlimited number of places, but it only counts against your Populi file storage once.

Ginger Howell I'm a little confused by your reply. We were talking about having a tab where the "links" were compiled, similar to the Files tab. That would help us check all the links easily without having to go into each lesson and click on each link to make sure each work properly. Does that make sense?

Adam Sentz Ginger Howell - Yep, I understand the original request. I was responding directly to Simian who said they switched to using links to "reduce duplication of files."

Ginger Howell OHHHH. Thanks for clarifying. I was totally confused.
