Perhaps the "remedial course" checkbox could also function to prevent the course hours from being included in hours earned toward a degree. The response will probably be "that is what the 'fulfills degree requirements' check box is for - leave that unchecked." But when that is left unchecked then the course doesn't get picked up in the degree audit.
A practical example - Basic Math is a prereq to any math course, thus we list it as a degree prereq. Some students will have to take the course. Other students will be exempt. For students that have to take the course it should NOT count toward total credits earned toward a degree since it is remedial. If we leave the "fulfills degree requirements" box unchecked the degree audit won't pick it up as being met when a student takes the course.
