My biggest problem with discussions is that many of the students wait until the last minute to post their first comment. This makes it nearly impossible for the students to have much discussion before the Closed Date. I was thinking that having a different First Post Date vs Closed Date would force students to make their first post earlier so that everyone has time reply.

Adam Sentz Jerry Wyrick - Maybe a discussion requirement that's a due date for their first post. So make your first post by October, 5 to get 5 points.

Jerry Wyrick Yes. That is basically what I am looking to do. But is there a way to do that with the current discussion format? I don't see any requirement option that I can set that has to do with the date of the first post.

Adam Sentz Jerry Wyrick - No, but it's a good idea! I love good ideas.

Jerry Wyrick Thanks. My son is taking a course at a local community college and they use canvas. Apparently that is an option in canvas. So the idea is not original to me :)

Delaney Collyer Hi all, I have just requested this feature (sorry I didn't see this post first!) and am trying to get it considered. If this is still something you would like, could you go to my post and upvote it? I've upvoted here as well, but I see nothing has happened with this over the past several years, so maybe a fresh request might help.
