SITUATION:
- our program chairs / department heads are listed as Hidden Faculty on ALL the courses in their department so that they can check on the courses (and faculty) they oversee. This is a great thing because previously we needed to give them admin or registrar level roles for them to see all the courses.
- Sometimes we make a new faculty member a Hidden Faculty so that they can see another teacher's course (in a mentorship way)
- unfortunately, even Hidden Faculty are sent ALL the notifications for these courses, and their inboxes are flooded.
- They can't turn off the notifications in their settings because that would result in them NOT getting notifications for the courses they ARE actually teaching. At this time the settings make no distinction between courses where a person is listed as faculty vs listed as hidden faculty
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:
- make it a default setting that notifications are turned off for any course where a person is listed as a Hidden Faculty
- make it a separate option in the Notification Settings to receive (or not) notifications for courses where one is a Hidden Faculty
