In this article, you'll learn how to use Proctorio to provide remote proctoring for your Populi tests. Proctorio provides a range of capabilities including browser lockdown, ID verification, and webcam monitoring (depending on the features chosen for your school's account). Proctorio will only be available for your use after a Populi Account Administrator sets up the integration.
Proctorio requires the use of a browser extension which must be installed by all users taking the test. If a test uses Proctorio, students will be unable to start it until the Proctorio extension has been launched.
Using Proctorio in a Populi test
Once the integration is set up, you can connect it to any Populi test as follows...
- When creating a test:
- Follow the instructions for creating a new test.
- In the Proctored setting, select Proctored via LTI tool.
- Select Proctorio.
- For an existing test:
- Go to the test's page.
- In the right column under Information, look for the Proctored setting. Select Proctored via LTI tool.
- Select Proctorio.
After doing this, you'll see two new links under the Proctored setting: Proctorio Settings and Proctorio Gradebook.
- Proctorio Settings will only appear if the integration is set up to allow each test to use its own settings. If so, you'll be able to choose which Proctorio features will affect test-takers.
- Proctorio Gradebook links to the Proctorio report page showing each test-taker's proctoring report and any recorded incidents. For more information, consult the Proctorio documentation.
Student experience
- When a student takes a test using Proctorio, they will first see a prompt to launch the Proctorio tool. There are two possibilities for what comes next:
- If the student already has the extension installed, they will see the Proctorio Before You Begin screen which guides the user through activating the specific proctoring controls specified in the test's settings.
- If the student does NOT have the extension installed, they will see a Populi page called "Set up Proctorio" with some information about the service and a link to Proctorio to install the extension. Once the extension is installed, they'll be taken to the Proctorio Before You Begin screen.
- Proctorio's Before You Begin page prompts students to take the necessary steps to activate the proctoring controls specified in the test settings (for example, closing all other active browser tabs, granting browser access to webcam and/or audio, perform ID card scan, et. al.).
- Next, students will need to agree to the Proctorio terms before beginning the test.
- After completing the test, students click the End Proctoring Session to close Proctorio and shut down all proctoring controls.
