In this article, you'll learn about options for providing comments and automated feedback to students on tests and test questions.
- Comments refers to the one-off notes you make on individual answers when you grade tests (like in To Be Graded.
- Feedback refers to the automated commentary you set up when you create a test question as detailed below.
- If the student has a Grades lock, he will be unable to see comments and feedback (as well as grades) when viewing a graded test.
Feedback Settings

If you're offering feedback, you can decide when to let students see it.
- On the test's page under the Information panel in the right column, click Comments & Feedback.
- For each test event (After Taking..., etc.), select what you'd like to make available to students:
- Grades: This lets students see their test grade as soon as it has been graded.
- Response Scores & Comments: Allows students to see scores for individual test question responses as well as any comments you've made on those responses.
- Correct Answers & Feedback: Shows students the correct answers to questions and any automated question feedback you've made available.
- When you're done, click Save.
Feedback for individual test questions
There are two levels of feedback you can offer in a test question: feedback for the question, and feedback for individual answers (in multiple choice, short answer, multiple answer, fill-in-the-blank).
To offer feedback for a question:

- At the bottom of the question design interface, you'll find options for three kinds of feedback.
- General feedback is given no matter how the student answers.
- Correct feedback is given when the student scores 100% on the question.
- Incorrect feedback is given when the student scores less than 100% on the question.
- Click to enter feedback. The WYSIWYG will let you get quite fancy if you so desire.
- Click Save to finish.
To offer feedback for answers:

- Choose multiple choice, short answer, multiple answer, or fill-in-the-blank as the question type.
- Next to your answer options, click and enter feedback.
- Click Save and move on to the next answer.
The feedback you offer will automatically be made available to your students according to the test's Comments & Feedback settings.
Making comments on student answers

When grading test questions, you can enter comments right below the student's answer. These will display to the student according to the test's Comments & Feedback settings.
What a student sees

After you've made comments and feedback available, a student can view those items when he reviews his graded test.
