Hello,
The administration of the shcool I work for wants to have a notification feature for the professors when the course evaluations are available, and when they are all submitted.
Thanks.
We would also like this for faculty and administrators, as well as the students!
It will help to have an alert to remind them to complete this, as it is often missed due to placement of the evaluation link on the within the course pages.
@Jessica - Students should see an alert on their main dashboard when they log in that will direct them to their course dashboard where they will see an alert requesting that they complete their evaluation.
Unfortunately, despite the alerts section, we are still having a problem with most students not completing evaluations as scheduled. Often we have only one or two students that have done the evaluation, but sometimes more. It is not a high success rate, and so ensues lots of emailing back and forth and reopening of evaluations.
When I write an email to everyone the day it opens, the success rate increases dramatically, and instead I may have only one student that has missed it, if any. It has turned out that direct communication about the evaluation has been necessary to get results.
An automatic email would save me (or another member of administration) from having to do it, as it is currently.
Comparative to the automatic email sent for updates to due date extensions or assignment grades, this would save a lot of manual communications about things that are scheduled in the course on Populi.
An alternative that may also be helpful in getting evaluations noticed, is to copy the evaluation to the assignment page, and then it would show up where students look for all of their assignments, as well as the calendar!
@Jessica - Some schools find using the grade lock on incomplete evaluation feature helpful. If you need assistance setting that up please reach out to support.
I have read up on the grade lock feature, and while I believe this would certainly elicit a response, I would prefer to take a proactive approach. I can appreciate its function, and I'm sure it may come in handy on select occasions.
If not a scheduled email, perhaps something more practical could be a generic email containing a direct link that can be triggered at will. I'm thinking something similar to the assignment extension and grade update emails that go out.
@Jessica - I kludged together a little PHP script that runs once-weekly. It checks for terms that ended within the last four weeks and sends an e-mail to students who have not yet completed an evaluation. It also sends a summary to the registrar's office so they know who hasn't done it yet.
It's tailored to our environment (it's using some libraries for sending mail via G Suite, e.g.), but someone at your institution could probably make the adjustments needed for it to work for you.
I'm happy to share it with you if you like. PM me. it at ambs dot edu.
