Hi Populi development team,
I see that the post listed above "Threaded discussions" was a request for the same feature, and it was made about five years ago.
In a formal discussion on an academic forum (such as Moodle), the professor poses a serious question. Then the students are required to give a serious, carefully written response to the original question. Then, the students are require to give, one, two, or more serious responses to responses given by students.
In Moodle, when responding to a discussion topic, the student can choose whether to post a new comment, or to respond to a particular response by a student. When the posts are displayed, they are given in threaded discussions with the relationship between the various posts clearly visible at a glance.
In the Populi discussion forum, one can only post at the end of the discussion, or give a specific reply to a given entry. One CANNOT then respond to a reply to a post. One can only "heart" it or not. This may be OK for a FACEBOOK discussion, but it is completely inadequate for an academic discussion in an online course, which is what I am attempting to run this semester using Populi for the first time!
PLEASE, PLEASE tackle getting this discussion to work as an academic discussion forum. This may make or break our future use of Populi.
