I would like to request your consideration for adding an "Adjunct Faculty" role. I know we can add a custom tag to delineate that adjunct role, but we are unable to show them as inactive with a tag. It's either all or nothing. That is not helpful to us.

Dr. Edward Clavell I see Marya Bland requested adding an "Adjunct Faculty" role. I would like to echo this request. We use adjuncts extensively for both our online and campus modalities. ACU would like to double the demand for this feature.
Thank you

Adam Sentz How would you want the permissions within Populi to differ from the Faculty role? What should an Adjunct Faculty be able to do that a Faculty cannot? What should they not be able to do that Faculty can?

Clint Collins I'd like to bump this request as well.
Adam, your question has me thinking about whether there are actually any differences from a role perspective when it comes to user management, and I can't say at the moment that I know there would be. However, from the SIS perspective this addition -- and in particular the simple ability to toggle between in/active -- would be a nice enhancement for record keeping purposes. Using a custom tag, as Marya mentioned above, is neither as clean nor as simple as having the adjunct faculty as a role -- even if it looks and feels exactly like existing faculty role.
Thanks,

Adam Sentz Clint Collins - All roles (faculty included) can already be set to Inactive. Maybe setting their title to "Adjunct Faculty" or something like that would work.

Clint Collins Thank you, Adam. I'm aware that all roles can be set to inactive -- I was speaking to the ability to have "Adjunct Faculty" as a role with that same ability, as originally proposed by Marya.
We're still new to Populi at my institution, so I'll admit to having plenty yet to learn, but I'm not finding the title field you mentioned anywhere in our system. Can you point me to what you're referencing? -
Adam Sentz Clint Collins - On the Profile > Info tab you can add organization relationships. If you add an Employment relationship at your institution the title and organization name will show up under their name on the profile.

Clint Collins Thanks Adam Sentz. We aren't using the organization relationships functionality at present, but I did find it in the API reference. Given the fact that individual users could edit their title, this still doesn't really meet our needs to distinguish regular and contingent faculty.

Adam Sentz Clint Collins - Yes, individual users could edit their title provided they also have the Staff role, but the Staff role isn't a co-requisite with the Faculty role.

Dr. Adam Christmas Wanted to see if we could bring this discussion back up again.
It would be very helpful if there were a role for specific faculty (Adjuncts at our institution) that restricted their editing ability, or even a customizable role.
At our institution, we have subject matter experts (SMEs) and course designers who create the courses for online and on-campus courses. However, many times, well-intended adjunct faculty will make changes to the course and even tests that are connected to multiple offerings of the same course, and this can cause issues.
It would be nice to have a role for faculty that would not allow them to make certain course edits to prevent this.
The "read only" feature is close to what is needed, but adjunct faculty still need to be able to post and grade assignments. The new 'role' would just limit them from editing the course or its tests.
