I find that Populi's compression of profile photos to be too low... especially for using in the printing of student ID cards.

Adam Sentz Hi Clint,
This explanation is based on the assumption that you meant to say that the compression is too high (the image resolution is too low) and not too low. Let me know if I'm misunderstanding you.
For ID photos we save a 72dpi image at a resolution of 297 x 371 pixels. The image on the ID card is 1" x 1.25". This means that the resolution of the image in the pdf is 296.8 dpi which is suitable for any kind of printing you might want to do.
If you think there's anything we might be able to assist you with here please do open a support request.

Marc Egles Hello... when I upload a student picture it looks fine. (1st screenshot)
When I leave the profile and come back, all of the sudden the same picture looks pixelated (2nd screenshot)Any idea why?

Adam Sentz @Marc - When you upload a profile photo Populi process several different versions (sizes) of it to use in different places for better performance. I can take a minute or so for that processing to take place sometimes so in the meantime Populi will use the full resolution version. So when the processing is done you may be able to notice the difference in quality even though the image is still being saved at a high resolution.
That said, looking at that actual photo in Populi, it doesn't look like the second screenshot you posted. Can you take another look, perhaps after clearing your browser cache?
