Proposal:

Students (and professors) would be able to see a detailed attendance record for each course. Specifically, students could see how many times (and which days) they were absent and/or tardy. I can see the number in my own roster, but students can not see this. Further, I can not currently see which days I marked as student as late/absent, so when a student inquires (or wants to correct my mistake), I do not know where to look and I would have to search through the whole attendance calendar until I figured it out.

Background:

When I take attendance I keep track of when students are tardy. For our college, a certain number of times that a student is tardy is the equivalent of being absent for a class. I was reminding students of this today and they asked me how they can see how many times they have been late for class and absent. Currently they can only see the percentage of classes that they have attended.

  This would be very helpful for us as well! After a certain amount of absences students have a reduction in their final grade and they are always having to email us because they can't see this.

  We don't show which dates, but if a student clicks "Detail" next to their attendance percentage under Course Stats on the course dashboard they can see how many times they have been marked present, absent, tardy, or excused.

  We need an easy way to find out which dates a student has been absent without going back to each week and opening it. Please provide an easy table to view dates absent. This should be a standard feature.

  We have a strict attendance policy and being new to Populi, it would be extremely helpful if students were able to see the dates they were absent from class.  Thank you.

  @Josie - We added attendance detail with dates awhile ago (though you can't really tell from my previous comments here :)). Anyway, if students click "Detail" next to their attendance percentage under Course Stats on the course Dashboard they will see a list of how many times they have been marked present, absent, tardy, or excused. If they click on one of those it will expand and show all the dates and events. This, of course, assumes that student progress is set to be visible.

  Is there a way for a professor to see which days a student has been absent? If I look at the roster, I can see how many times they have been absent, but I'm not sure how to see which days they have been absent.

  @Andrew - if you go under the attendance tab you can select an individual student to see which days they were absent, tardy, present.  You still have to toggle through the months but at least you can isolate the student.
