When we suspend a student due to academics the closest exit reason is "expelled" which we find to be a very harsh word for something we use as a tool to help students who need a wake-up call. If students were unable to see this reason it would be one thing but to inform a student that their studies have been suspended and then to have it recorded as an expulsion (which the student can see) turns students off rather than helping them with their studies.

Toby Robinson Hi Sarah, the issue with changing those is that they are used in IPEDS reporting. If we change the options, we won't be able to help people collect data for IPEDS reports. You may want to consider adding a discipline type of "Academic Suspension" to a student's account rather than deactivating them as a student (especially if the suspension is temporary). If you have any questions about this feel free to submit a support request and we'll help you out!

Toby Robinson Populi now has custom exit reasons that map to the IPEDS official exit reasons. Contact support to get started!
