We have a fair number of students who use alternate or gender-neutral pronouns. It would be great if this information could be recorded somewhere on the student profile and also show on the roster so faculty are aware for classes and grade notes. We encourage faculty to have conversations with students about their pronouns, but we would appreciate this technological support as well so schools can be Title IX compliant.
Looks like I neglected to update this post, but a while back we added profile bios and profile cards which, I think, handles this case pretty well. If you allow students to edit their bio they can enter their preferred pronouns, or whatever else they want people to know about them, and then that bio will be displayed on a card that pops up when another user hovers over their picture wherever it's displayed in Populi.
