Respondus Monitor for remote proctoring

Any possibility to work with Responds Monitor for remote proctoring? http://www.respondus.com/products/monitor/index.shtml

It locks down the browser and uses the webcam for the tests.

There is an earlier request - https://support.populiweb.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/214262387-Implementing-a-Lock-Screen-for-Students-testing-Online?input_string=Remote%20Proctoring - that speaks to Lockdown Browser that helps prevent cheating by limiting function on the computer. There is also the current proctoring option in Populi. However, remote proctoring integration would allow for proctoring without requiring a student sitting with an actual proctor. As an example, Respondus Monitor allows you to select assignments or test for proctoring and requires the student to launch the LMS in their Lockdown Browser and go through a few steps to video their ID and it records the session using the webcam.

  I recently got in touch with Respondus, and all they are willing to do is allow Populi to license LockDown Browser on behalf of our schools. An integration with Respondus Monitor is not something they can do. We're actively looking into other options for remote proctoring.   Did you ever receive any feedback from Populi on this? We are currently talking with Proctorio, and they are LTI compatible, but I can't find a use case to see how it would look in Populi.

  @Autumn - We're always willing to take a look at integrations that would benefit our customers. Generally there's some level of development needed on our end, and we have to weigh the value of that vs. other things we could work on.

  @Robert ...I did not. One company contacted Populi to try to work through the development issues, and Populi didn't respond favorably at the time. We are using a browser-based lockdown browser instead of one that's integrated for now. Hopefully, Populi will see that this is a need for many schools, esp if more of us request it, and they will begin working to make it possible.

  @Autumn - I'm not sure whom exactly you are referring to, but we're always happy to have 3rd parties build integrations using our API. It's not uncommon for us to be contacted by companies asking us to build their product into Populi which is generally not something we'll consider doing without significant demand from our customers. 

  We're aware of the need for remote proctoring. I'd love to see a solution that works well via LTI.

  @Robert - We reached out to them a couple years ago and had an email exchange with Nick. They were unwilling to even review our API documentation to see if an integration was possible without us entering into a "partnership".

  I'll reach out to Nick again. I'm open to other remote proctoring systems, I just found Respondus easy to use and cost effective. As all our courses are online, remote proctoring is important if we want to try and use the Populi LMS instead of Moodle.

  If Adam did connect with me I would have put him in touch with our Business dev person as I can’t make any integration decisions. I checked with our Business dev person and here is what he wrote:

   

  “No, I never heard from anyone at Populi.  We would be happy to work with them on a LDB integration, but we don’t have an OEM program for Respondus Monitor.”

  We received this email from Proctorio when trying to work a solution after Tegrity announced they were shutting down:

   

  "We have had a few conversations with Populi, but they are unfortunately shutting us down and are not willing to work with us to integrate Proctorio into their system as of now. They stated that they would not be able to put in the time to build the integration for your individual request. That being said, do you know of other institutions that utilize Populi and may also be interested in Proctorio?"

   

   

  It certainly seems there is interest by multiple populi users for proctoring. Is the "partnership" aspect what the problem is and Proctorio didn't want to mention that part? I feel like I'm missing something somewhere. I'm not partial to any one company, but I feel like remote proctoring is simply a must for school's today.

  @Autumn - Looks like we spoke to them back in may when they got in touch on behalf of your school. They are more than welcome to build an integration using our API or using LTI, but if developer time is required on our end we'd need to see more demand (for Proctorio specifically) to make that make sense. 

  We can see the need for better remote proctoring as schools are increasingly online so it's definitely on our radar going forward. If we can find a third party product that's a good fit for our customers that we can integrate with that would be great. I'll be keeping an eye out.

  Adam Sentz Respondus would work for us. We are currently using Respondus LockDown Browser with Monitor in Moodle. Students like it. It seems to work well.

  Robert Frankel - I emailed with Respondus two months ago about possible integration. They offered to license LockDown Browser to us, and said that we could not license Respondus Monitor. They indicated that an integration was not possible at this time. If that's something that people want, you'll have to convince Respondus first.

  Proctoring companies seem to have developed themselves a bit more due to the pandemic, and remote proctoring is something we desperately need even more now due to the pandemic. Has any headway been made on a solution? We are attempting to use ProctorU but with no integration, it's very difficult for professors and students. I've heard honorlock plays more nicely with LMS companies...?

  It would be a great help to have better proctoring for online classes. There are many ways to assess student progress, but when information has to be memorized there is nothing as effective as a test in real time. Please get something going!

  Autumn Richardson - If there are remote proctoring systems you'd like to see integrate with Populi I'd recommend letting them know. We've reached out to several and haven't made much headway.

  My institution is concerned about the present state of proctoring online assessments within Populi. The current email/test proctoring needs vast improvements to make online testing credible.

  Has there been any movement by Populi in building a relationship with any of the remote proctoring systems? I contacted Respondus, whose response was, "If Populi is interested in developing an integration, we do have an SDK program available. But aside from that I'm afraid we can't be of much help."

  I'm also interested from anyone if you have found a workable solution to not having an integration with Populi for your online proctoring needs.

  Marc Holloman - As far as I can tell nothing has changed with Respondus since I posted here previously. Over the last few years we've tried to build integrations with a few different providers, but in every case they couldn't provide us the necessary documentation and/or stopped returning our emails. We do have an LTI 1.3 update in the works that may open up some options. A couple years back RPNow said you could use their product with Popuil's test passwords, but I haven't heard from anyone that's actually tried that out.
