I enjoy the emoticons, but they destroy hyperlinks. For example, if I paste a link in an Assignment post (or in a Discussion, I presume) to https://google.com/option/:v:/open.asp (a totally fictitious link for the sake of discussion), the colon-v-colon will convert into a peace sign. Copying the newly created link omits the icon (as expected), but also the colon-v-colon unexpected. I suggest removing hyperlinks from emoticon conversion.
