We are a distributed university with a lot of adjunct faculty and are uncomfortable with the fact that faculty can see photographs, phone numbers, and home addresses for students. We have opted to exclude this information from our FERPA Directory Information in order to protect students. We would like the ability to limit the personal contact information that is available to the 'faculty' role.

We added a setting called Faculty access to private contact info a while back that addresses this.
If the information is made private on the students' record, does that hide it from Faculty role?
Great question - we tested it and it does not hide from faculty. So maybe the feature request is that when students mark pieces of information as private, that those fields are hidden from faculty?
Having info that the student's mark as "private" on their info tab not being visible to the faculty role would also be appreciated here. Other than the school email, faculty don't need additional contact info. (phone and address) In our context here, it is difficult to justify sharing more than what is "needed".
This is great. Are the faculty able to still email the student through Populi even if all their contact is marked private? does the student still get notifications trigged by instructor activity?
Jeremy Perrott - I don't believe they can. The students can still get notifications via email though. If faculty need to email students, the option where Faculty have access to private contact info of students in their courses might be the best option.
