We're new to Populi this semester (fall 2020), and I've encountered a problem related to assignment availability options and the comments section of an assignment. I set availability to close at a certain day/time, but then students will drop their assignment file in the comments section and think then think they have somehow gotten in even though the availability was supposed to be closed. Of course, I could reject the assignment, but all that does is garner me ill will from my students for what is an arguably reasonable point of view (they feel like the got it in). If you can fix that, it would remove a friction that Populi introduces to the teacher-student relationship.
