May I suggest creating a role for students that simply wish to audit classes, and not ever enroll in them, giving them access to register to audit a class, but not the ability to enroll? I have corrected auditors' enrollment status on the roster page several times, but it seems inefficient to have to double check every time someone with only auditor status registers for a class. There should be something different about accepting an auditor application that limits their access to enrollment, avoiding the confusion altogether.I appreciate your consideration.

Toby Robinson Official comment Student types have been added to student profiles. You can now restrict courses by type as well. Student Type is split into 2 settings for more flexibility - Campus and Online. Online is courses with an online delivery method, Campus is everything else. To make it so a student could only register to audit courses you'd set both to Audit Only. Please let support know if you have any questions!
