I would love to be able to set up a "student assistant" role for courses. This would be a student research assistant who could access course material and help a professor create Populi pages, upload materials, etc. but could not see the grades of other students. Nor would we want them to be able to see notes or comments about students that are intended for other faculty. Recently we've been adding student assistants as faculty before the course starts to help with course set up and then removing them before any grades come in. But we have realized that their faculty status during that period of time allows them to see things about other students that is not FERPA compliant. Thanks for considering this!

Brent Graber I'd be happy to see this also. We have exactly this role set up in Moodle so that students in the course can help instructors in the course with the mechanics of the course. I know faculty members who will keenly feel this loss if we decide to migrate our LMS functions from Moodle to Populi.

Adam Sentz Is this basically Teaching Assistant without access to grading?

Brent Graber That would reflect what I am doing in Moodle. I could also imagine a "hide gradebook" checkbox for TAs that might let them enter grades for a particular activity but not show the cumulative grades for classmates, but I don't know what kinds of dependencies that would require developers to rework. (It's easy to imagine things!)

Adam Sentz Brent Graber - By Course Teaching Assistant settings seems like the probably the way to go. It's not uncomplicated to implement, but I think it's the most-likely-to-cover-all-use-cases option.
