Organizing course files and folders

I can upload files to a course and organize them into folders. But if I then add them to the Syllabus page and a Lesson page, for example, they both show up at the top level of the files list for the course.

So, if I have 30 class sessions with a presentation, video, and transcript for each session, I could upload them into folders to manage them, but when I add them to the pertinent lesson page, I get a new entry at the top level of the course Files. If I move that file entry into a folder, it will be removed from the lesson page. This makes the Files list extremely cumbersome, and the folders unhelpful for organizing the student's view of the course files.

My request is that the files listed in the course files view can be moved into folders instead of requiring those that appear in pages of the course to reside at the root of the files listing.

  Mark Mills - One option would be to use the Embed feature to include files in Lesson content instead of attaching them to the Lesson when you already have them organized in Files, but then you don't have the ability to track things about the file in the same way so that may not be desirable all the time.

  Thanks for the reply, Adam. The embed code feature was an approach I had not tried.

  After playing around with embed codes, it requires a bit more effort than most faculty and TAs will be able to do without extra training, plus tweaking the HTML code to get the desired outcome. It's not worth the additional work just to make the Files page more usable.

  Maybe adding a display option to organize the files by their location displayed below the file link would make the list more manageable. For example, I uploaded a file to the Syllabus page and also added it to the first lesson, so now it shows up twice in the files list, once with "Lessons > RT 001 Lesson 1" and once with "Syllabus" as the locations. If the files could be displayed treating those location elements like folders, that would accomplish what I'm trying to do manually.
