We recently learned that IPEDS is no longer using the term "alien" when referring to non-U.S. Citizens. (https://surveys.nces.ed.gov/ipeds/public/changes-to-the-current-year)
Should we be expecting Populi to follow this change?

Populi now uses "U.S. Nonresident" instead of "U.S. Nonresident alien."
Clay McFerrin - IPEDS 2022 updates (which includes this change) are completed but not released yet. Shouldn't be too long, but we're a little more cautious with releases as things ramp up this time of year.
Good to know, thanks!
To clarify: IPEDS uses these two terms:
This Populi FAQ says, "If they aren't a US citizen, but they have a Primary or Home address in the US, they are reported as U.S. Nonresident."
So, in the Citizenship field on the profile of a non-U.S. Citizen, if the individual....
Is that correct? It's rather confusing to have "Resident" appear with Citizenship (which makes it look like they still reside in that country even though they're in the U.S), but then "U.S. Nonresident" (which similarly implies that the individual is not currently residing in the U.S., although they actually are) appears with Race/Ethnicity.
Maybe by the time I retire the gov't will have figured out a sensible nomenclature.
Clay McFerrin - Sounds correct. It's understandably confusing.
The Resident checkbox is contextual and relates to their citizenship. Your school is in the US, they are a citizen of another country. Do they have Resident status or not?
U.S. Nonresident displays by the Race/Ethnicity because it's the IPEDS reporting category for a non-US resident.
