Official comment @Carissa - Good news! Exceptions can already go past the course end date and allow, for example, a student to submit coursework after the end date of the course.

@Carissa - Present is the default because the vast majority of the time (85%) students are marked Present. Perhaps you could start by switching everyone to Excused or Tardy with the All Excused or ...
