While I'm not opposed to offering that as an optional setting, that would not work for our institution. Instructors are the ones who excuse student absences at our institution.

Yes, we give coaches advisor status so that they can track student-athlete performance, but I don't want them registering students for classes.

I just make sure I put a registration lock on all students on or before the "end date," which is relatively painless and quick. I believe that accomplishes what you have in mind.

That would probably be a FERPA violation. Instructors do not generally have an educational interest in knowing which students are receiving federal financial aid.

Yes, we use Populi for tracking chapel attendance, but we would not want chapel attendance to be included in the calculation of LDA.

100% agree. I use custom tags for different sports. It would be great to be able to easily select all of the team members and assign their coach as advisor.
